What is ICANN verification?

The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers, or ICANN, requires proof of validity for the domain owner's email address.

If you register or transfer a generic top-level domain (gTLD), or if you subsequently change the domain owner's contact email address, additional confirmation of your details may be required.

This verification is necessary when the email address specified for the domain owner has not yet been entered into the ICANN system

When ICANN verification is needed, they send an email with a verification link to the address provided for the domain owner. If the domain contact details are updated during this time, the verification process is interrupted and restarted.
